FLIGHT TRIP WITH MRS DAMI

By Bethy Write

INTRODUCTION

Insecurity is one of the emerging challenges in our Society (Nigeria) and safety is the utmost concern of everyone.  It is a priority of business owners, government and the family at large. Let us be cautious in our day to day dealings so as to be able to live a fulfilled life for ourselves, children and the society at large.

I can remember Mrs Dami who lost her husband during a business trip he went for in one of the States. According to Mrs Dami, "these were my husband's last words on the incident that led to his death in the hospital right before my eyes". I wept that Saturday morning when I got a call that my husband was hospitalized, reaching there I met him in a pool of blood as he gathered the last strength in him to narrate the scene behind the bullet in his ribs. Since I was eager to hear him speak even when the doctor asked him not to stress his nerves to speak, he couldn't let go of my hands as he gasp for breath.

He started, I successfully landed in the venue of the meeting, as I rushed down from the airport with a cab man who took me there, I dropped down got his contact and demanded he pick me up to my hotel after the meeting and probably  throughout my stay there which he agreed. After  the meeting, I called and he came and took me to the hotel where I logged during my three days trip, he drove me around town to get the things I needed and  all necessary work done.

On the last day of my trip, I called him and he picked me up, on our way to the airport he demanded to take a short route to enable me catch my flight early, going ahead we headed towards this lonely road were we where accusted by some unknown mask men who took everything on me. While pleading with them,  the driver was exchanging words with them in an unknown language, there and then I realized the robbery was well orchestrated and planned by the cab man. While pleading with them, I got a hit on my ribs, behold  it was a bullet as he ran into the bush with the others.

They left me there, bleeding until I found myself here. Please dear, help me find the man who did this to me. "Can I go through the investigation" Mrs Dami asked, "through the airport checklist of registered cars". Mrs Dami cried as she narrated this horrible incident to my mum who met her boarding the same flight, sitting next to each other.

Mrs Dami concluded, I have not been able to find that man because airport registered the cab, but didn't scrutinize him well to the point of knowing his family just in case of necessity to help trace and hold him accountable.

My trip was filled with tears as Mrs Dami narrated her story that led her into widowhood.
